Active substance: sodium liothyronine
Tradenames: Cytomel, Tertroxin, Thyrotardin, Thybon-Forte
Cytomel is not an anabolic steroid but a thyroid hormone, triiodothyronine (T3). It is used to treat thyroid deficiencies, obesity, certain metabolic disorders and fatigue. When administered, Cytomel increases the patient's metabolism. The result is increasing cellular activity through a more efficient metabolism of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Bodybuilders are attracted to this drug for its ability to burn excess fat. A bodybuilder can burn large amounts of fat without reducing caloric intake too much. Cytomel is used in combination with Clenbuterol, a combo that can have extreme effects on fat burning. This combination has become very popular in the past few years. Also when thyroid hormones are taken in combination with steroids an increase in their anabolic effect can be observed (due to the more efficient use of nutrients).
Those who want to use this drug should do so with care. Cytomel comes with a long list of side effects and warnings that should not be ignored. There may be side effects such as heart palpitations, anxiety, difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, headaches. It is a powerful hormone that can disrupt body functions if used improperly. Doses should be administered progressively. Usually 25 mcgs are taken in the first day and then the doses increase by 25 mcg every 3-4 days to a maximum dose of 100 mcg. The 100 mcg dose is considered very high, and few bodybuilders and athletes use it. A 50 mcg dose is sufficient for the majority, and 75 mcg is already a big one. Progressive increase of the daily dose helps the body to adapt and not be "shocked" by so much thyroid hormone. The daily dose should be divided equally throughout the day to maintain blood levels constant. Women are more sensitive to the side effects of Cytomel and should not exceed 50 mcg / day.
A cycle should last no more than six weeks and should not be stopped suddenly. As slowly as the dose was increased must also be decreased. Taking this medicine over a long period of time or in large doses can lead to a permanent shut down of the thyroid gland, which can lead to a lifetime of Cytomel addiction. It is a good idea before using it to have your thyroid gland checked. A hyperfunction of the thyroid gland would not go well with Cytomel. The injectable form of T3 should be avoided. It is only used in emergency rooms and is too strong for an athlete.
Because T3 it's the most powerful thyroid hormone, beginners would do well to stay away from it. A better choice for them would be Triacana or Syntroid (T4).
After a T3 cycle hormone levels in the blood can be greatly reduced leading to a lower metabolic rate and the danger of "yo-yo-ing" (lost weight is put back quicly). To avoid this a good diet must be followed post cycle!
While using Cytomel the dietary proteins should be around 3-4 g per kilogram of body weight (or 2-3 g per pound). Most protein should come from lean meats. Protein shakes can be used, but you should not rely too much on them as it is more likely to be immediately converted into glucose and used for energy. The caloric restrictions should come from carbs and fats.
T3 can lead to lean muscle mass loss. Many use anabolic substances such as steroids, in small quantities, to prevent this.
An example of a T3 cycle for 3 weeks: 25 mcg / 25 mcg / 25 mcg / 50 mcg / 50 mcg / 50 mcg / 75 mcg / 75 mcg / 75 mcg / 100 mcg (it is not a good idea to go so high, a more resobale dose would be to remain at 75 mcg) / 100 mcg / 100 mcg / 75 mcg / 75 mcg / 75 mcg / 50 mcg / 50 mcg / 50 mcg / 25 mcg / 25 mcg / 25 mcg. If you want a 4 weeks cycle then each dose should be used for 4 days (25 mcg / 25 mcg / 25 mcg / 25 mcg / 50 mcg / 50 mcg / 50 mcg / 50 mcg .....) and then changed. For 5 weeks, the dose is maintained 5 days and then changed and so on.
On the internet you can find people who argue that the minimum effective dose is 75 mcg / day and recommend dosages of 150 mcg. Most likely this individuals used low quality or expired products. Thyroid hormones pills (T3 and T4 ) are easily degradable . The closer they are to the expiration date the more likely to lose their properties. After the expiration date should not be used, as all properties are lost. The use of genuine products is recommended, products manufactured by legit companies from the US or the European Union. Generic versions are of poor quality and degrade easily; 150 mcg / day of such a product does not create big problems, but 150 mcg a quality T3 from a real pharmaceutical company can spoil your day in a big way!
Warning! This drugs can be efficient but dangerous. To avoid side effects and health complication you can use natural potent alternatives, like UltraSlim (thyroid stimulating supplement) or Thermacuts (natural metabolic stimulator).
